Grambling Legends Sports Hall of Fame 2018

Pro Hall of Famers are everyone who has made it to professional levels from Grambling State University

Wendell Henderson

Baseball 2018 Inductee

Wendell Henderson accomplished excellence in the
sport of baseball as a high school athlete. He was
drafted by the Chicago Cubs out of high school, but
chose to accept a full baseball scholarship to attend GSU.
He established three personal career milestones: the most
hits in a career, the most career runs batted in, and the
most total bases in a Gambling career. Henderson was
drafted in 1981 by the Chicago Cubs.

Samuel Holden

Football 2018 Inductee

Samuel Holden initially went to Southern Illinois
before transferring to Gambling where he was named All
-SWAC and All-American in the National Association of
Intercollegiate Athletics. Drafted by the New Orleans
Saints as an offensive tackle, "Big Chop" was the
highest drafted lineman from Gambling.


Elfrid “Alley Cat” Payton

Football 2018 Inductee

Elfrid “Alley Cat” Payton was confident he was
good enough to make the football team as a walk on.
Not only did he earn a scholarship, he also was named
the team's most outstanding player in ‘88 & ‘89. In the
CFL, he played in 189 total regular season games, 17
playoff games, and four Grey Cups. His 154 career sacks
are the 2nd highest career total in CFL history.


Terrace Sykes

Basketball 2018 Inductee

Terrace Sykes was named AlL-SWAC three times, part
of the last Gambling Tiger team to win a SWAC
Championship, named three times to the SWAC All-
Tournament Team, and the SWAC leading rebounder two
times. His senior season he averaged 23.8 points per
game, 11 rebounds per game, shot 52.6 percent from the
field, and 70. 6 percent from the field.

Michael Williams

Football 2018 Inductee

Michael Williams, starting quarterback at GSU, was
named the MVP twice for the Bayou Classic and GSU
MVP, led the West to a 19-10 victory over the East in
the first Sheridan Black College All-Star Game, sought as
quarterback by four teams in the Canadian Football
League, a member of the 1982 Grey Cup Champion team,
part of the Louisiana State Police, a certified NCAA
Football Official, and State Farm executive.

Thomas Williams

Football 2018 Inductee

Thomas Williams* played for the LA Rams as a
defensive back, moved to Prairie View A&M in the
position of professor, backfield coach, and basketball
coach. Later, he joined Olympic sprinters Stone Johnson
and Richard Stebbins; afterwards, he joined the Houston
Oilers as Assistant General Manager.


Miechelle Willis

Track 2018 Inductee

Miechelle Willis was a member of the 1975, 1976,
and 1977 SWAC Track Team Champions, a Cum Laude
graduate of Gambling State University, and received her
master's in Sports Administration, coached at Montclair
State University and Temple University, and served as a
flight medic in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.
