Grambling Legends Sports Hall of Fame 2019

Pro Hall of Famers are everyone who has made it to professional levels from Grambling State University

Virgie Broussard

Dance/Cheerleader 2019 Inductee

Virgie Broussard became lead dancer and later
Director of the Orchesis, was selected as an All-American
cheerleader, completed a B.S., two MS degrees and the
Ed.D., served as head basketball coach at Lemoyne Owen
College in Memphis, Tennessee, and is a published
author.


Andrew Glober

Basketball 2019 Inductee

Andrew Glover was named ALL SWAC in Basketball
and SWAC Triple Jump Champion, became the last GSU
player to letter in three different sports, was selected in
the 10th round of the draft, played for the LA and
Oakland Raiders, Minnesota Vikings, and New Orleans
Saints, was nominated "Man of the Year" by the LA
Raiders, and played a total of ten years in the NFL.


John Jeter

Baseball 2019 Inductee

John Jeter was named the GSU Defensive Player of the
Year, selected in the baseball draft in the spring of
1964, played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego
Padres, Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians as an
outfielder, and played in 336 major league games.


Albert Hartwell, Jr.*

Basketball 2019 Inductee

Albert Hartwell, Jr.* matriculated at Gambling
specifically to play basketball for Coach Fred Hobdy,
Played for the Knicks and the New Orleans Jazz, Became
head basketball coach at multiple Louisiana high schools,
Won 10 straight District Championships and 2 State
Championships as head coach, Known as a man who
knew how to make an impression.


Michael Wade Moore

Football 2019 Inductee

Michael Wade Moore was named the Montgomery
Advertiser All-City Tight End 1st Team, Birmingham
News All-State Super-Eleven 2nd team, New Orleans
Times Picayune, All-Louisiana Tight-End 1976 and 1977,
All SWAC 1st team Tight-End 1977, GSU’s Most
Outstanding Player 1976 and 1977, and signed with the
Kansas City Chiefs.


Carlos Jerome Pennywell

Football 2019 Inductee
Carlos Jerome Pennywell was named All
Conference, All American in football in 1976-77 and
baseball in 1974-76, as well as All-Louisiana Team in
1974-76, received 7 letters in sports at Gambling, helped
Grambling to the 1977 SWAC title, named All Conference,
selected in 3rd round draft for the New England Patriots
in 1978, and played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of
the CFL.


Daniel Hays “Field Rat” Washington*

Football 2019 Inductee

Daniel Hays “Field Rat” Washington* played
for Coach Emory Hines and Coach Eddie Robinson, was
part of the 1941 team that was undefeated, untied and
unscored on, joined the Army and served his country
from 1943-1945, worked with Coach Eddie Robinson for
40 years as Athletic Trainer, and selected for the
Louisiana Trainers Hall of Fame.
